The primary responsibility of a YMCA Lifeguard is to monitor pool activities and ensure member safety and well being by consistent enforcement of all safety guidelines as outlined by the YMCA.

DUTIES

  1. Support the mission of the YMCA.
  2. Incorporate the YMCA Character Development (Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, Respect) in our daily routine and incorporate these character traits when interacting with staff and members.
  3. Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow staff and members of all ages and background.
  4. Responsible to work all scheduled shifts and to be on the deck ready to guard at the assigned time.
  5. Prepare incident reports at the time of the incident.
  6. Know and follow evacuation procedures.
  7. Perform all opening and closing duties.
  8. Responsible to accurately record all hours worked each day as your shift ends.
  9. Must attend schedule in-service trainings.
  10. Rotate between Main and Therapy Pool every 20 minutes.
  11. Must wear YMCA lifeguard uniform while on duty. Lifeguard uniform consists of whistle, responder fanny pack, lifeguard t-shirt and rescue tube.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be at the age of or over 15 years old.
  2. Current lifeguard certification through Red Cross and/or YMCA
  3. Current professional rescuer CPR/AED/First Aid
  4. ONLY CANDIDATES WITH LIFESAVING CERTIFICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED

  1. Ability to swim and perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for water rescues.
  2. Duties require occasional lifting and/or moving up to 40+ pounds.
  3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and the ability to see and hear patrons in the pool.
  4. Change mode of lifeguarding (sitting, standing, walking and swimming) every five minutes.
